The section Groupings requires a little technical explanation: During my review, it turned out that some of the laws are described in relation to each other. For instance, this applies to the laws of Economy, Attraction and Synthesis. This means that a number of quotes about the Law of Economy also contains explanations about the other two laws. In order not to repeat these quotes under each of the laws of the alphabetical index, I have chosen to collect quotes that include several laws in the section of Groupings. Thus, to get the full picture of the Law of Economy it is necessary to examine both of the sections Groupings and Alphabetical.

Basic Laws for the Public

ALICE A. BAILEY, Cosmic Fire

I. There is one Boundless Immutable Principle…”

II. There is a basic law called the Law of Periodicity. This law governs all manifestation, whether it is the manifestation of a solar Logos through the medium of a solar system, or the manifestation of a human being through the medium of a form. This law controls likewise in all the kingdoms of nature.

There are certain other laws in the system which are linked with this one; some of them are as follows:

  1. The Law of Economy – the law governing matter, the third aspect.
  2. The Law of Attraction – the law governing soul, the second aspect.
  3. The Law of Synthesis – the law governing spirit, or the first aspect.

These three are cosmic laws. There are seven systemic laws, which govern the manifestation of our solar Logos:

  1. The Law of Vibration.
  2. The Law of Cohesion.
  3. The Law of Disintegration.
  4. The Law of Magnetic Control.
  5. The Law of Fixation.
  6. The Law of Love.
  7. The Law of Sacrifice and Death.

Each of these Laws manifests primarily on one or other of the seven planes of the solar system.

Each law sweeps periodically into power and each plane has its period of manifestation and its period of obscuration.”

III. All souls are identical with the Oversoul.

The Law of Correspondences will explain the details of this relationship. This Law of Correspondences or of Analogy is the interpretive law of the system, and explains God to man.”

My comments: Together these laws (3 cosmic and 7 systematic) are also called “The Laws of Thought” (Cosmic Fire: Section Two – Division D – I – 2.), and each one of them are examined on the pages 569 – 601.

My comments: The three last mentioned of the seven systemic laws are also the most important of the “The Laws of the Three Worlds” and the three laws of the personality that “can be summed up in the well-known term, “The Law of Rebirth and Death in the three worlds.” The connection between the seven laws and the seven rays is examined on the pages 586 – 601:

“We will now take up and briefly study the three most important laws affecting the evolving human being, as he lives his life in the three worlds. These laws are:

  1. The Law of Fixation.
  2. The Law of Love.
  3. The Law of Sacrifice and Death.

These laws are all dominated and controlled eventually by the three higher laws in the system – the Laws of Magnetic Control, of Disintegration, and of Cohesion. There is a direct connection between these seven laws and the seven Rays or Vibrations, and if we study the correspondence we shall recognize the fact that the first law, that of Vibration, is the controlling law of the six, demonstrating through the second law, that of Cohesion, just as the solar Logos is at this time manifesting Himself through His second aspect in this the second solar system.

The first Ray of Will or Power is the first aspect of the All-self, and in the third outpouring, 83 came [587] down to the fifth plane, along with the other monads. A subtle correspondence exists between the monads of Will on the fifth plane, the fifth law, and the fifth Ray.

The second Ray or the Love-Wisdom aspect wields a control on the fourth and sixth planes, and dominates the Laws of Cohesion and Magnetic Control, and the astral Law of Love. There is a direct interlinking between the abstract Rays and the laws of the planes where they specially control.

The third Ray which is the Activity aspect, controls the Laws of Disintegration and of Death, on the third and seventh planes.

Therefore, it will be apparent to the careful student of the wisdom that:

  1. The Power-Aspect – Ray 1, Planes 1 and 5, and the Laws of Fixation and Vibration, form one interlocking whole.
  2. The Love Aspect – Ray 2, Planes 2, 4, 6, and the Laws of Cohesion, Magnetic Control, and of Love, form another unit.
  3. The Activity Aspect – Ray 3, Planes 3 and 7, and the Laws of Disintegration, Sacrifice and Death, make still another group.”

With this as a basis, the three laws of the personality become replete with life, and can be summed up in the well-known term, “The Law of Rebirth and Death in the three worlds.”

THE LAW OF ATTRACTION, pages 1166 – 1229
“This law is, as we know, the basic law of all manifestation, and the paramount law for this solar system. It might strictly be called the Law of Adjustment or of Balance, for it conditions that aspect of electrical phenomena which we call neutral. The Law of Economy is the basic law of one pole, that of the negative aspect; the Law of Synthesis is the basic law of the positive pole, but the Law of Attraction is the law for the fire which is produced [1167] by the merging during evolution of the two poles. …”

Subsidiary or additional laws under the Law of Attraction, pages 1030 and 1039 – 1084
“We will consider what we have to say in this section under the following heads:

  1. The nature of this motion – spiral cycling.
  2. The results of its activity. These results can be viewed as four subsidiary laws or adjuncts to the major law of Attraction, and may be called:
  • The Law of Expansion.
  • The Law of Monadic Return.
  • The Law of Solar Evolution.
  • The Law of Radiation.”

My comment: Each of these four laws are then examined on the pages 1039 – 1084

Subsidiary laws under the Law of Attraction, pages 1168 – 1184

  1. The Law of Chemical Affinity
  2. The Law of Progress
  3. The Law of Sex
  4. The Law of Magnetism
  5. The Law of Radiation
  6. The Law of the Lotus
  7. The Law of Colors
  8. The Law of Gravitation
  9. The Law of Planetary Affinity
  10. The Law of Solar Union
  11. The Law of the Schools

7 laws for group work, pages 1216 – 1220 (also subsidiary to the Law of Attraction)

  • Law 1: The Law of Sacrifice
  • Law 2: The Law of Magnetic Impulse

  • Law 4: The Law of Repulsion
  • Law 5: The Law of Group Progress
  • Law 6: The Law of Expansive Response
  • Law 7: The Law of the Lower Four

My comment: These seven laws of group Work are also examined in Esteric Psychology, pages 85 – 200.

THE LAW OF ECONOMY, pages 214 – 222
“This law is the law governing the matter aspect of manifestation, and is the law characterizing the work of the third Logos, and of the entities who are the embodiment of His will and the agents of His purposes.”

  4. The Law of Friction

LUCILLE CEDERCRANS, The Disciple and Economy, page
1 – 5: This series of instructions “is written in an endeavour to give the modern disciple, in whatever nation, position, or circumstance he may be placed, a basic understanding of the Economy of the One Life and Its Laws, so that he may serve The Plan justly and wisely in the world of mankind.

The Economy of the One Life is an organization of the energy, force, and substance of Its many parts into that divine activity which serves the evolution of the total. In Its highest aspect as a Cosmic Law, It establishes and maintains the relativity of interchange and exchange which is the circulatory Life of the ordered Cosmos.

The great Cosmic Law works out within our Solar system via three subsidiary laws about which little can be said at this time. Suffice it to say that:

  1. The Law of Free Circulation establishes the rhythmic ebb and flow of the energy, force, and substance of the system throughout the totality, so that the part may partake of that of which it is aware …
  2. The Law of Harmonious Placement arranges, according to colour and tone, every life in relationship to every other life and the Central Directing Will of the system. …
  3. The Law of Formulation establishes and controls the constant motion of substance to reflect the steady evolution of consciousness, thereby producing in the phenomenal world the needed forms through a ceaseless inner destructive and constructive activity which we see and know as change.

These Solar Laws are stepped down upon our planet into three basic laws of Economy, which have to be worked out and applied by humanity (the brain of the Planetary Logos) within its life and affairs. Thus, the Planetary Logos waits upon humanity and its evolution, just as the Solar Life waits upon Him.

These three Planetary Laws relate specifically with three aspects or phases of intelligent activity: the first having to do with the intelligent activity of purpose or direction, the second having to do with the intelligent activity of consciousness, and the third having to do with the intelligent activity of substance.

Each of the three laws brings these great occult principles into active play within the life and affairs of man. Thus, when the whole of the Law of Economy is applied, nine occult principles of great significance in the Purpose and Plans of the Logos are invoked into acitivty.

We shall first enumerate the Laws and Principles involved, and then move on to definition and explanation of each.

  1. The Law of Right Use
    1. The Principle of Sharing
    2. The Principle of Supply and Demand
    3. The Principle of Democratic Participation in the One Life
  2. The Law of Right Activity
    1. The Principle of Individuality
    2. The Principle of Equality
    3. The Principle of Grace
  3. The Law of Right Planning
    1. The Principle of Divine Prototype
    2. The Principle of Relative Appearance
    3. The Principle of Sequential Change”

ALICE A. BAILEY, Cosmic Fire, page
45: ”When the three Laws of Economy, of Attraction, and of Synthesis work with perfect adjustment to each other, then nature will perfectly display the needed functioning, and the correct adaptation of the material form to the indwelling spirit, of matter to life, and of consciousness to its vehicle.”

198 – 199: “c. Sight. This sense, as said before, is the paramount correlating sense of the solar system.

Under the Law of Economy man hears. Sound permeates matter and is the basis of its subsequent heterogeneity.

Under the Law of Attraction, man touches and makes contact with that which is brought to his attention through sound waves of activity. This leads to a condition of mutual repulsion and attraction between the one who apprehends and that which is apprehended.

Having apprehended and then contacted his eyes are opened and he recognises his place in the whole order under the Law of Synthesis.”

199 – 200:

”Hearing –    Unity
Touch –       Duality
Sight –         Triplicity

In these three senses the present is summed up for us. The work of evolution is to recognise, utilise, co-ordinate, and dominate the whole till the Self, by means of these three, becomes actively aware of every form, of every vibration, and of every pulsation of the not-self; then, through the arranging power of mind, the objective of the self will be to find the truth, or that centre in the circle of manifestation which is, for the Self, the centre of equilibrium, and the one point where the co-ordination is perfected; then the Self can dissociate itself from every veil, every contact, and every sense. This leads in every manifestation to three types of separation:

Involution. The separation of matter, or the one becoming the many. The senses are developed, and the apparatus is perfected by the Self for the utilisation of matter. This is under the Law of Economy.

Evolution up to the time of the Probationary Path. The merging of Spirit and matter, and the utilisation of the senses in a progressing identification of the Self with all forms from the lowest to those relatively refined. This is under the Law of Attraction.

Evolution on the Path. Again the separation of spirit from matter, its identification with the One, and the ultimate rejection of form. The senses then are synthesised into acquired faculty, and the Self has no further use for the not-self. It blends with the All-Self. This is under the Law of Synthesis.”

247 – 257: Extracts from the answer to the question: Is there a direct analogy between the development of a system, a planet, a man and an atom?

247: “An atom is governed by the Law of Economy, is coming slowly under the Law of Attraction, and will eventually come under the Law of Synthesis. …”

248 – 49: “A man is governed by the Law of Attraction, is evolved through the Law of Economy, and is coming under the Law of Synthesis. Economy governs the material process with which he is not so much consciously concerned; attraction governs his connection with other units or groups, and synthesis is the law of his inner Self, of the life within the form.”

253 – 54: “A Heavenly Man is governed by the Law of Attraction, has transcended the Law of Economy, and is rapidly coming under the Law of Synthesis. Note therefore the gradual stepping-up of the control and the fact that:

First. The Law of Economy is the primary law of the atom. The Law of Attraction is coming into control of the atom. The Law of Synthesis is but slightly felt by the life of the atom. It is the law of life.

Second. The Law of Attraction is the primary law of man. The Law of Economy is a secondary law for man. It governs the matter of his vehicles. The Law of Synthesis is steadily beginning to be felt.

Third. The Law of Synthesis is the primary law of a Heavenly Man. The Law of Attraction has full sway. The Law of Economy is transcended.

The dense physical body is not a principle for a Heavenly Man, hence the Law of Economy is transcended.  The Law of Attraction governs the material process of form building. The Law of Synthesis is the law of His Being.”

257: “The solar Logos is governed by the Law of Synthesis. He holds all in synthetic unity or homogeneity. His subjective life is governed by the Law of Attraction; His material form is governed by the Law of Economy. He is coming under another cosmic law as yet incomprehensible to men, which law is but revealed to the highest initiates.”

ALICE A. BAILEY, Rays and Initiations, page
264 – 267: “3. Let the group understand the Law of Synthesis, of unity and fusion.

The Law of Synthesis, as you know, is the law of spiritual existence, and one of the three major laws of our solar system, as well as of our planet.  It is a basic cosmic law, applied from sources of which we know nothing, as are the Laws of Attraction and of Economy. …”

375: “There is still another point upon which I would like to touch.  Owing to the fact that the Law which governs the Hierarchy is the second systemic law, the Law of Attraction, students are apt to think that magnetism is a second ray quality. They are right in so far that all the systemic laws are expressions of the life of God through the medium, at this time, of the second ray, which makes our solar system a second ray system. All other laws and qualities (for a law from the divine angle is the motivating, qualified agent of the divine will, as understood in Shamballa) are related to the second ray as it manifests through our planetary Logos.  Nevertheless, magnetic action is more closely allied to first ray functioning than it is to the second ray, and is an aspect or quality of the Law of Synthesis.”

404: “Constantly, therefore, this great circulatory process goes on, demonstrating anew the essential synthesis underlying all life—human, planetary, systemic and cosmic; it reveals also that the Law of Attraction, the Law of Magnetic Work, and the cosmic Law of Synthesis are three aspects of one Law for which, as yet, we have no name.”

416 – 17: “It is the principle of freedom which enables Sanat Kumara to dwell on the Earth and yet stand free from all contacts, except with Those Who have trodden the Path of Liberation and now stand free upon the cosmic physical plane; … this is that which “substands” or lies under or behind all progress.  This mysteriously “exerted influence,” this “pulling away” from form (as we might simply call it), emanates from Sirius and for it we have no name; it is the law of which the three cosmic laws—the Laws of Synthesis, of Attraction and of Economy—are only aspects.  None of these three subsidiary laws imposes any rule or limitation upon the Lord of the World.  The Law of Freedom, however, does impose certain restrictions, if one can use such a paradoxical phrase.”

ALICE A. BAILEY, Discipleship in the New Age II, page
422 – 23: “3. He notes the law which is transcended. … As a human being, the disciple was ruled and conditioned by the cosmic Law of Economy, along with its various subsidiary laws which were active and conditioning in the three worlds of human evolution. This law is the basic law of nature and of the natural evolving man. After the first initiation, he comes under the Law of Attraction which carries and wields the energy of love and—though the Law of Economy is then abrogated—it preserves an habitual control over the habitual process of the form vehicles which are now used under the Law of Attraction; this law works within the consciousness of man and also within the forms in the service of the Hierarchy. This Law of Attraction is a major soul law.

Later, after the fourth initiation, the disciple comes increasingly under the Law of Synthesis, which is the major Law of the Spirit in the universe.”

ALICE A. BAILEY, Esoteric Psychology I, page
376: “These Laws of Cleavage are too difficult for general comprehension.  They govern form life, and are the result of the united working, or rather the simultaneous manifestation, of the three laws dealt with in A Treatise on Cosmic Fire. These are:

  1. The Law of Synthesis, determining the future, certifying the goal, and concerned with the life or spirit aspect.
  2. The Law of Attraction, determining the present, and governing the immediate condition of the planetary types. It is concerned with the consciousness or the soul aspect.
  3. The Law of Economy. This law determines the past, conditions the planetary consciousness, and concerns itself with the form or matter aspect.”

When these three function together, during this particular cycle and in our particular race, they produce a fusion of forces which imposes a certain rhythm, a definite materialisation of energies, and a specific type of civilisation which functions under what we (esoterically) call the Laws of Cleavage.  It is the mind which separates and divides; it is mental activity (divine and superhuman, as well as human) which produces the many differentiations.  This process of divisioning comes to its climax during this world period in the Aryan race, the fifth race.  We are today governed by the Law of Cleavages, – a divine law and one of fruitful objective.”

[The next pages are about the activity created by the three aspects in the human races through laws]

379: “Let us now enumerate these laws in sequence, so as to gain a better idea of their relation and interrelationship:

  1. The Law of Immersion First race
  2. The Law of Capitulation Second race
  3. The Law of Materialixation / of Hidden Radiance Lemurian race
  4. The Law of Tides                  Atlantean race
  5. The Law of Cleavages Aryan race
  6. The Law of Loving Understanding Next race

LUCILLE CEDERCRANS, Creative Thinking, page
98 – 102:” The form is always transitory because that is its nature. It is made up of acting, living, intelligent substance that responds to the Will of God. The Will of God is expressed via certain laws that work out as the nature of a life in form. Thus, every form receives its inherent nature from the focused Will of God. Humanity has only to understand that nature to consciously use it to their own advantage.

The Will of God in relationship to substance works out upon this planet via three major laws, which, in turn, manifest a basic nature within all forms.

These laws are:

  1. The Law of Economy which states in effect that all forms shall serve the economy of the One Life. …
  2. The Law of Relativity which states in effect that all forms are interrelated and interdependent within the One Life. …
  3. The Law of Periodicity which states in effect
  1. That every form has its own inherent cycles of growth, maturity, and decline, these cycles being impressed upon it at the moment of its conception by the focused Intent of the consciousness involved.
  2. That the cyclic activity of every form is peculiar to the form itself, yet subject to and contained within the more powerful cycles of that organized Life of which it is a functioning part.”

110: “The three basic Divine Laws of Economy, Relativity, and Periodicity give the form its nature. It is within this nature that the incarnating consciousness is imprisoned, with this nature that we are for a long cycle of growth identified, and by gradual control and right use of this nature that we are finally evolved into a conscious Soul incarnate.”

142 – 143: “Within our solar system, there are seven major Divine Laws and Divine Energies that are the interpretations and expressions our Solar Life gives to Cosmic Love or Pure Reason. These seven are also known as the seven rays and much has been given anent them in other works both by this and by other esoteric writers.

The seven Divine Laws and Energies of Cosmic Love as they may be worked out into manifestation by humanity are enumerated and defined as follows:

  1. The Law of the Focused Will to Love, which states in effect that, .The Power of God may be invoked into manifestation via the focused Will to Love.
  2. The Law of Loving Understanding, which states in effect that, “The energy of Love in the Mind produces right understanding or Wisdom”.
  3. The Law of Service, which states in effect that, “A planned activity of service impulsed by love and carried out in Love results in the manifestation of some fragment of the Divine Plan for Humanity”.
  4. The Law of Transmutation, which states in effect that, “The radiation of Love in the three planes of human endeavor transmutes darkness into Light, ignorance into Wisdom, and discord into harmony”.
  5. The Law of Formulated Knowledge, which states in effect that, “When Divine Love is formulated into concrete science and knowledge, a new heaven and a new earth shall come into being”.
  6. The Law of the Focused Ideal of Christ, which states in effect that, “The Christ shall reappear when humanity recognizes the Christ Principle indwelling everyone”.
  7. The Law of Initiated Growth, which states in effect that, “Through the initiation of a planned activity of growth, human beings may cooperate with the Law of Evolution to reach a desired goal of spiritual development”.”

LUCILLE CEDERCRANS, Nature of the Soul, page

That emanating from the Central Cosmic Center there are certain impulses which become the Divine Laws that maintain order in the manifest Cosmos. Three of these, along with others not enumerated at this time, work out in our planetary scheme in the following manner:

1. The Law of Evolution
This is the Divine Law governing the Consciousness aspect of all life. It is related to the Purpose of God and means, simply, that any created state of consciousness is in a process of growth, regardless of its outer appearance and condition. Thus, man evolves to become the Soul conscious Son of God, while He in turn evolves to become an individualized focal point within the consciousness of The Christ.

2. The Law of Reincarnation or Rebirth
This could be called the grading system of the evolutionary process within the human family. The Soul incarnates not once in human form, but many times until It masters the form nature, and controls Its vehicles as the Instrumentality of the Divine Plan.

3. The Law of Karma
Here is the great Law of Balance, that which makes evolution possible. It controls the displacement of energies within the manifest Cosmos, directing a return of each flow of energy, from any given point, back to its Source in similar type, strength, and quality. Thus, whatever a man thinks, feels, or does shall return again to him as the balance of energy displaced within his own individual system. Via this law a man meets with those opportunities for growth which he himself has created, and thus evolves in the school of experience from instinct to intellect, from intellect to intuition, and from intuition to inspiration. Thus does knowledge itself become Wisdom, and the Soul master of Its own fate or karma. Upon such mastery, the incarnating consciousness is freed from the wheel of rebirth into a higher frequency range of activity.”

34: “From the moment of the birth of an individual Soul, a self conscious unit within the greater consciousness of the Second Logos, the process of human evolution begins. The new birth of awareness is swept into activity by the Divine Impulses of the Will, Intelligence, and Love which are inherent within it. These, working under the Divine Laws of Evolution, Reincarnation, and Karma, build the first cycle of vehicles for the incarnating Soul, with little attention being given the building process by the consciousness itself. In the beginning, the process automatically proceeds according to Divine Law and the inherent Plan.”

LUCILLE CEDERCRANS: Applied Wisdom, page
12: “To bring this concept of evolution down to the individual, we must go into the Universal Law of Reincarnation, which has been so difficult for the Western world to accept. There are but three concepts which provide the structure of this teaching and each grows out of the other. The first is the Universal Law of Evolution, the second is the Universal Law of Reincarnation, and the third is the Universal Law of Karma. No one of the three will stand alone for each presupposes the existence of the other two.”

  1. “The Law of Evolution.  This is the Divine Law governing all creation, meaning that all consciousness is evolving upward, that all is progress.  God created Souls who are as children growing under the Law of Evolution to adulthood.  The physical plane is but a school for this great cycle of evolving creation.
  2. The Law of Rebirth or Reincarnation.  This could be called God’s grading system.  The individual Soul incarnates not once in human form but many times, growing in the school of experience into higher states of consciousness.
  3. The Law of Karma or Retribution.  This Law is the determining factor for the subject matter of any one grade.  It is that which attracts to a man all that which is his own.  If at one time he steals, at another time he will be stolen from, until he learns that it is not good for him to steal.  If at one time he gives, at another time he will receive, so that he will learn that it is good for him to give.  Later, much later, he will learn the why of these things; in the beginning he learns only in terms of good and bad.
  4. The Law of Periodicity.  The Law of Periodicity is a cosmic one which issues out of the very center of all created, creative Light, and moves back upon itself into that center.”

ANNIE BESANT: Brotherhood of Religions
“6. The Great Laws. By “the great Laws” I mean the Law of Karma, or that of cause and effect; and the Law of Sacrifice, or that of the propagation and the maintenance of life. … The Law of Karma is stated by science in the invariable sequences which it calls laws of nature; the theologian calls it divine justice. It is the rock on which all is built, the true support of all thinking and all activity. It prevails in all worlds, gross and subtle; it is a universal law. … The Law of Sacrifice is the statement of the fact that all lives live by the surrender, forced or voluntary, of other lives; that the outpoured Life of the Supreme is the support of the world.”

ANNIE BESANT and C.W. LEADBEATER: Lives of Alcyone
“From other lines of study we have realized the existence of three great factors as determining the place and time of each man’s birth. First, the force of evolution, which places each man where he can most readily acquire the qualities in which he happens to be deficient; second, the law of karma, which limits the action of that first force by allowing the man so much as he has deserved; third the law of attraction which brings the man again and again into connection with the other egos with whom he has formed links of some kind.”

ALICE A. BAILEY, Esoteric Healing, page
522 – 23: “What we call the Laws of Nature were the highest phase of the divine life possible in the first solar system.  They are primarily the laws inherent in the life aspect of the form and have in them, therefore, the seeds of death.  The Laws of the Soul as they subordinate and render negative the Laws of Nature, are the highest laws to which humanity (the highest kingdom in nature at present) can respond, and these—when fulfilled—will conclude the purpose of the second solar system.  The Laws of Life itself will finally supersede the Laws of the Soul and will completely offset and negate the Laws of Nature; these laws will be distinctive of the third solar system—the last personality expression of the solar Logos through the medium of the Seven Planetary Logoi with their varying forms and soul expressions.

We have, therefore, three groups of laws which govern the expression of the living purpose in this second solar system—one developed and another developing, with the third latent and relatively quiescent.

  1. The Laws of Nature—the separative laws of the form nature.
  2. The Laws of the Soul—the blending laws of group integrity.
  3. The Laws of Life—the dynamic laws of Being itself.”

ALICE A. BAILEY, Rays and The Initiations, page
156 – 57: “It must be remembered that the Laws of Nature are imposed upon the mass of men, and cannot be avoided.  If these laws are broken, infringed or evaded, they carry their own penalty within themselves, and this also cannot be avoided.  These great protective laws are intended to guard the personalities through which the soul incarnates and eventually to cement and further all the great and possible relationships.  The man passes from the stage of antagonism (as an individual) to the control of these natural though divine laws, to a recognition of their inevitability and of their wisdom.  They automatically then control him.

When this control by the Laws of Nature has become complete, the man becomes an aspirant and begins to come under the Laws of the Soul, which are laws concerned primarily with the establishing of the great Fellowship of the Universe.  There has been much confusion among esotericists upon these points. They confuse the discipline to which the personality has to submit when coming under soul influence, with the Laws of the Soul which have naught to do with the petty little affairs of the personality—unimportant and unnoticed by the soul on its own plane—but with the growing recognition of right group relations; these are based upon a growing understanding of the hierarchical mode of work and of inter-hierarchical relationships. The Laws of Nature, therefore, concern the activities of the soul in form and are mandatory and accepted by the form nature.  The Laws of the Soul concern the life of the soul upon its own plane, and the relation which the blending soul and personality learn to establish with other souls and with the Hierarchy.  These are consciously and voluntarily obeyed, and are not just accepted as mandatory and as forced upon the man by force of circumstances, experience and evolution. They tend to bring about increasing relation between the Hierarchy of Souls and Humanity as a whole, between the great planetary centre which is the custodian of the principle of love and the planetary centre, humanity, which nurtures and distributes the energy of mind.”

ALICE A. BAILEY, Esoteric Psychology I, page
297 – 303: “When certain basic postulates, four in number, have been presented and kept before the mind of the public, they will finally lead to such an education of public opinion that the needed activities will follow. …

Therefore, the first postulate which must be laid down, and to which the general public must be educated, is that all souls incarnate and re-incarnate under the Law of Rebirth. …

The second basic postulate was enunciated for us by Christ when he told us to “love our neighbor as ourselves.” … But the new law must, and will, be enunciated.  This law can be summed up in the words: Let a man so live that his life is harmless. …

The third basic law underlying the solution of our modern problems, including that of sex, grows normally out of the other two laws.  It is the Law of Group Life.  Our group relations must be seen and acknowledged.  Not only must a man fulfill in love his family and national obligations, but he must think in the wider terms of humanity itself, and so bring the Law of Brotherhood into expression.  Brotherhood is a group quality. …

The final postulate which I seek to emphasize is that the keeping of these three laws will lead necessarily to an urgent desire to keep the law of the land in which a particular soul has incarnated. …

In the recognition of these four laws — of Rebirth, of Love, of the group and of the Land — we shall see the salvation of the race.”
